Tiger Woods Apologizes

It’s been 85 days since we first heard speculations about Tiger Woods on Thanksgiving Day regarding his relationship with wife Elin. Since then Tiger’s career has spiraled downward with multiple cheating allegations. Tiger since has gone into hiding, first after the Thanksgiving Day crash that started all of the commotion when he did not want to speak to the public and kept the situation extremely private. After a couple weeks and more and more women speaking out about being involved with Woods he entered therapy, still not addressing the public about the numerous affairs.

Tiger has now chosen to publicly speak out for the first time and address the situation. On Friday February 19, 2010 he hosted a small conference, 30-35 close friends and colleagues as well as one video camera. Woods did not want many reporters in the room and made it clear that no questions were to be asked. He spoke for about 14 minutes and repeatedly stated how sorry he was for his actions as well as his regretful feelings towards the relationships he has harmed. The verdict is still out on how sincere the speech was (see below for link to the video), the speech was obviously scripted and had Tiger reading from a piece of paper. Woods in his private nature is never overly emotional in the public eye and some questions whether he really is sincerely apologetic for the situation.

At the end of the speech Tiger got up and hugged and kissed his mother who showed great support for the golfer. Elin, Wood’s wife, was not seen on the video and was not reported present. Woods made it quite clear that all of the questions and comments that the public has for him will be handled in a private matter between him and Elin and that they are still working on their relationship.

High School Coach Sinks Shot Blindfolded!

Olathe Northwest High school is all the talk on sports news this week when the school decided to pull a prank on the girl’s basketball coach. They offered Joel Branstrom a chance to win an all expense paid trip to the NCAA Final Four tournament if he could sink a half court shot blindfolded! The students gathered in the school gym for the event and were told beforehand to cheer as if Barnstrom made the shot, regardless of the outcome. Needless to say the students doubted the former University of Kansas’s star player’s ability to sink the shot. When blindfolded Joel Barnstrom stepped up the half court line he shocked everyone when the shot sailed through the air and swished into the net. The students cheered however it was out of genuine amazement that he made the basket, not the fake cheering they had planning in the prank.

The students were so sure that Barnstrom wouldn’t make the shot that they never secured the Final Four tickets however now with such national coverage; Joel has been bombarded with offers. Barnstrom’s video has made it to the top of ESPN’s sports center top 10 countdown, on CNN.com, and appeared on Good Morning America, where he was asked by host Robin Roberts to try the shot again. Joel took the half court shot and it bounced off the rim twice but did not fall into the hoop, a very close second attempt. Congrats to Joel on his accomplishment and trip to the Final Four!
