We’ve recently re-posted on our Facebook page summer contests that range from hot dog eating contests to Icee-Chugging contests. We don’t offer these contest ideas, but we would like to provide our customers with an unlimited scale of promotions to allow your company to be profitable and well marketed. Step 1: Decide when you want to run a contest?

What date do you want to run your contest? Or do you want to hold your promotion over a range of days?

Step 2: What kind of campaign to run?

Will you be running a contest where people compete for a prize or a giveaway? Where people enter their information for the chance to win. (Usually by random drawing) Or a promotion? Where there are prizes for everyone who signs up. As you think through different campaign types, you must think in terms of your customers. How much work should they put in to enter the contest? Will their be a registration fee? We’ve seen that the best performing “contests” tend to have less steps to enter. The lower barrier to entry, the more people will likely sign up. So weigh out the pros and cons of each before moving any further.

Step 3: Determine a goal for customers & your business.

What will you have your customers strive for? We offer our customers a chance to win big cash prizes and vacations to give them the proper motivation. But more importantly, for a contest to be successful, the prize must be relevant to your niche. For example, if you are a dealership, how about giving your customers a chance to win a brand new car off the lot?

And secondly, what are your immediate and post-contest business goals? Starting off with a clear objective will help establish the overall contest strategy. How much success and what outcome financially would you like from the promotion? Would you be holding the contest more to gain new customers?
