What Are The Odds Of Hitting A Hole In One?

A hole in one, also called an ace, is one of those things that are sweet about the game of golf. If you are lucky enough to hit one, no one will ever argue your ability to play the game. However, what are the actual odds of hitting a hole in one on the golf course? It is low considering even those who make golf their career will go without hitting even one in all of those years.

The odds of hitting a hole in one are actually quite low, but they do vary. Still, it may not be as hard to hit as some believe. One of the difficulties in providing an exact figure to determine the actual odds of hitting a hole in one is that there is no ongoing record for how often they are hit.

Still, there are some ways of guessing at the odds. For example, in Golf Digest from 1999, the magazine reported that, "One insurance company puts the PGA Tour pro's chances at 1 in 3756 and an amateur's at 1 in 12,750." Those seem pretty long odds. Hitting two holes in one is a near one time in 1,000,000.
